big news on the apparel tronic side. were here to celebrate another step forward of our newest label introducing the 7th release on the catalogue & 2nd on vinyl, by an artist we really admire and were delighted to have on board with us: julian habib aka inkswel, on this project with his alias that dude inkswel. the man himself created an 8 tracks lp which truly represents our spirit of experimentation, this time round steering towards a more jazzy influenced hip-hop, shaped up staying true to the sound we love. the sound lp features dope collaborations such as the detroit vocalist and multi-instrumentalist brownstudy singing on the opening and title track, the amazing progressive artist maia von lekow giving her voice for b1 track mother alongside mista monk, the superb han litzs flute and trujillo on kellin it & also divine species on galaxies and mr. shem rapping on a3 track dedicated to mr. schem. this work is a bold and captivating selection of different styles belonging to the same soul orchestrated by inkswel and his musical mastermind, listening to the sound is like jumping on a caravan for a journey where every track is a different stop: crunching beats, deep bass lines, psychedelic melodies. the ingredients for this amazing recipe are all coming from different parts of the planet, a place that inskwel seem to have written on his palms seen his capability of bringing different music influences under the same roof, where he finally invited apparel tronic to hang for a bit. racks such as ‘snooker club and ‘viejos delve into more caliginous, idm territory.

ever-impressing uk talent james dexter makes a return to bondage-music this december as he drops his latest three track ep lets go back. 2018 has been a substantial year for london based dj and producer james dexter, with appearances at the likes of fabric (london), claire (amsterdam) and sash (sydney) and releases on little helpers, gruuv, deeperfect and his own inermu imprint in the past 12 months alone. with the new year in sight, here we find three new fresh productions in the form of his lets go back ep, marking a return to bondage music in the process following his recent remix of frinks sofisticate on the imprint. title cut lets go back opens proceedings as dexter reveals an up-front, bumping cut armed with crunchy drum licks, infectious vocal samples and rich, airy chords, before simple things utlises further rich and soulful vocals alongside crisp skipping hats and resonant kicks to guide the production through seven minutes of groove driven house music. last up, dexters roll through pairs refined, stripped back organic percussion arrangements with wandering synth lines and vocal coos to wrap up the ep in fine fashion.

ltd repress! by now, chicago s home of the ghetto house movement, dance mania, should need no introduction! if you didn t already know, they are the original purveyors of that hard-ass, stripped back, tough, hitting electronic funk, they ve never held back with their output. operating since the late 80 s the label has gained legions of fans over 2 decades as well as a certain notoriety and one of their most well-known artists has got to be the legendary dj deeon and his various production pseudonyms! this, the second in a series of samplers focusses on some of his unreleased cuts, rarities and classics from the dm catalogue. kicking things off with the demented over-sexed jacking off of da dik suk this ep shows you what s up from the jump. lifted off 1996 s freak like me ep this is vintage deeon to the core! this is followed up with the minimal, acidic runnings of 1112 , from deeon s 1996 chop shop release, a wigged out, simplistic groove that just won t stop. classic chicago weirdness that simply just slams. the frenetic phenomenon opens up side b, produced under his mute pseudonym and originally released in 1997 this is a sure-fire rarity from the dm vaults. a tough one to track down and a real essential under the radar cut. also featured is the wild acid of playground productionz the box , here in unreleased (!) rare remixed form by another chi-town legend - paul johnson. top shelf business. last but certainly not least is another playground jammer in the form of the killer vertigo lifted off the same ep from 1994 which is surely enough to whet even the toughest of appetites. file under jackin . every track on here has been remastered and repressed with the full consent and involvement of dj deeon and parris mitchell, selected and programmed from deeon s private archives and dat tapes for above board, london. 100% hater free.

“uhuru” is the debut album by summers sons & c.tappin from london and bristol. the journey of this album started back in 2015 and was inspired by the people and places of tanzania. after three years of channelling the vibe into beats and bars, it is finally here!
summers sons are turt (rap) & slim (beats) who are actually brothers. they are longtime friends with vocalist and pianist c.tappin. their music can be described as rap with a lot of jazz. we like to call it cool bap.

hot on the heels of his album r.u.r on boysnoize, djedjotronic aka jérémy cottereau drops an icy 4 track electro cut for cpu. we knew we wanted to work with cottereau after hearing his and maelstrom s lost echoes project (see maelstrom s alph4 e.p. on cpu). there s a clear drexciyan influence here with plenty of dystopian drama but things are disrupted with the likes of tunnel serving up raw 4/4.

taapion records co-founder shlomo drops his expansive and versatile debut album “mercurial skin”. comprised of enough experimental and left-of-centre nuances to satisfy even the most curious of diggers, “mercurial skin” delivers an alluring trip into the mind of the most exciting and dexterous rising talents within electronic music. the clear double vinyl is housed in a full colour sleeve.

legwork’s footage series enlists two up-and-comers from the san francisco bay area. sepehr is a regular dj on the sf club and warehouse scene, making waves in early 2018 on the honey soundsystem label. justin lives and works across the bay in oakland, and can be found at many of the same parties. bottom line is you’ll be hearing more from these two in the future. raw detroit-style house is order here, with a remix from legwork hq of justin’s offering.

utopia cloak arrives on film with six track ep, marina gardens. utilising both electronic & acoustic components, the british producer crafts hazy, dynamic electronica with a decidedly emotive bent. the music explores a curious production aesthetic - at once half sunk and at the same time gloriously crisp and direct. caustic drum machine hits underpin the majority of the work, compete with polyrhythmic rolls & glitches, while softly warping synth lines occupy the majority of the remaining sonic space. rather than working explicitly with nostalgia, utopia cloak makes more subtle references to the classic sounds of yore - riffing on downtempo & idm with gentle and considered nuance, eking out arcane hooks & rich melodies with a pleasing focus on compositional structure & songcraft. contrast is the key here, though - and utopia cloak works hard to find the balance between metallic per-cussion strikes and wide-angle instrumental elements, avoiding chaos in favour of a lush, rewarding lis-tening experience.

coming next from adult only: the repress of one of the most sought-after 12s from the label back catalogue. ao19: “formula express – main course” was originally released in 2002 and featured guillaume la tortue, jef k and chris carrier.
this is actually some of the last records ever produced by the mysterious guillaume la tortue, one of the pioneer of electronic music in france, who’s quoted by laurent garnier in his infamous “electrochoc” book as one of his main influence back in the days.

the record opens on the “main course”: a classic tech-house number with a beautiful 909 beat and a tasteful use of various samples and fx all through the track. the funky vocals still sound fresh today but the secret here (as often with chris carrier’s related work) is the groove – the kind of groove that reminds you summer days in the park while the strong bass-line announces already the next track.
on the flip, “starter” stands out as the perfect dancefloor killer with an infernal groove and a real fat analog bass-line that will keep you moving whether you want it or not. add just a few crispy tribal percussions on a classic raw 909 beat and you got the simplest and dubbiest song of the record but also the most efficient dancefloorwise.
the last cut, “apple pie”, might be the deepest of them all. spacy melodies and trippy vocals in the background make you first feel like you’re chillin on some extraterrestrial beach far away from earth. it starts as a nice breakbeat building the atmosphere before slowly evolving into a more 4-4esque tech-house with the bass coming in only after a couple of minutes. even if the sound was resolutely analogic, the whole ep is extremely well produced with a special care for details. at many levels this three-track ep is a landmark in the label history.

rassvet records is back with a bangin ep made by mirabella karianova aka shadowax who is famous by her outstanding appearance on nina kravizs trip label. here she delivers a brilliant cover version of a song by a russian old school hip-hop band. nasty lyrics about russian 90s reality performed with her subtle voice sounds really obscure and at the same time very fresh. this ep is also featuring a powerful dancefloor remix by rassvet records head buttechno, longer b-side version and acapella.

after last years heartbreak hotel including the mighty glitter, here comes the new tb ep. wave house, disco noir, acid love, and an all roland gear slo-mo session of the early 90ies trance-rave classic schoeneberg by marmion. gerd janson noted sounds good when he dropped it at sven vaeths party on ibiza.

mangled records twentieth release also marks 20 years since its first release. to celebrate the occasion here are two of ray mangs better known and loved tracks together on one 180gram mangled 12inch for you! number one first surfaced on his solo debut 96 noid release. it gained widespread support in the clubs and went on to be featured on both dfps de-luxe house of funk and groove armadas back to mine compilations as well as his own mangled lp. look into my eyes is a blissed out balearic gem that featured on the b side of rays 10 dfa release and instantly became a firm favourite for many.

last year japanese public broadcaster nhk aired the animated superhero series “the reflection”. the legendary english musician/producer trevor horn served as music producer for the anime. the story of “the reflection” is set in a world where a mysterious atmospheric phenomenon known as “the reflection” killed many people all around the world while causing the survivors to spontaneously develop superhuman abilities. some people become heroes, others become villains...
while achieving great success as a member of the buggles, yes, and art of noise, trevor horn also worked as producer for many popular musicians, such as paul mccartney, frankie goes to hollywood, tom jones, cher, grace jones, seal, tina turner, lisa stansfield, pet shop boys, simple minds, and mike oldfield.
the reflection release includes a 4 page booklet and is available for the first time on vinyl. the limited edition of 1.000 individually numbered copies is pressed on pink coloured 180 gram vinyl.

leonard chin, born in jamaica, started producing music with legends like augustus pablo or horace andy before he moved to london in 1975 and started his santic label. what more can i say reflect this typical 80 s uk soul production, a perfect glimpse of early brit-funk works combining soul, jazzy rhythms, lovers rock, midtempo beats. the song is mainly instrumental and includes sweet background vocals. this timeless hard to find tune finally has it s first time official reissue. here comes official reissue on pépite

wonder stories heads over the pond for their 24th release finding the aussie/uk collaboration between dawn again (returning from his excellent ep on ws019) and uk underground champion rothmans (known for his vinyl only label of the same name). psychedelic, melodic, and grooving are the name of the game here with timeless odyssey venturing into melancholic ethereal territory while rainbow perch is an uplifting and bubbly affair. on remixes, timothy j. fairplay submits a jacked up sleazy version of timeless odyssey while emile strunz tackles rainbow perch into a 4/4 techno stomper with a new wave ethos.
